What forex actually is

Forex — foreign exchange — is the global market for swapping one currency for another. It is the largest financial market in the world, with trillions of dollars changing hands every day between banks, businesses, funds and individual traders.

There is no central exchange. Trading happens electronically between participants around the world, which is why the market runs 24 hours a day, five days a week.
